New York City’s dining scene welcomed a new jewel on July 20th: Casasalvo, the first full-service restaurant from celebrated Sicilian chef Salvo Lo Castro. Building on the success of his popular espresso bars, Lo Castro brings a taste of Italy—and a touch of his extraordinary past—to the heart of Soho. The opening marks a significant evolution for the chef, who previously catered to the palates of dignitaries and heads of state.
From Vatican Kitchens to Manhattan Tables: The Journey of Salvo Lo Castro
Lo Castro’s culinary journey began in Sicily, honed through decades of experience in luxury hotels like the San Domenico Palace and Mazzarò Sea Palace. He then ascended to the role of private chef for the Vatican and, notably, former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. This unique background instilled in him a dedication to quality, precision, and a deep understanding of Italian gastronomy.
